Creating an EBS user and assigning responsibilities
Creating users and roles (often referred to as responsibilities in older versions) in Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) R12 involves using the System Administrator responsibility to define users and assign them access to specific application menus.
Phase 1: Create the User
- Log in to EBS: Log in using the SYSADMIN user (or any user with System Administrator access).
- Navigate: Go to Security > User > Define.
- Enter User Details:
- User Name: USER_DEV
- Password: Set a temporary password (e.g., Welcome123).
- Password Again: Re-enter the password.
- Password Expiration: Set to ‘None’ or leave blank to avoid immediate password change requirements.
- Save: Press Ctrl+S or click the Save icon.
Phase 2: Assign Roles (Responsibilities)
In standard EBS, “roles” are typically handled by assigning Responsibilities.
- Direct Responsibilities Tab: In the same User window, click on the Direct Responsibilities tab.
- Assign Responsibility:
- Responsibility: Search and select Application Developer.
- From Date: Defaults to today’s date.
- To Date: Leave blank if it is a permanent role.
- Save: Press Ctrl+S again.
Phase 3: Verify the User
- Log out of the SYSADMIN session.
- Log in with the new username USER_DEV and the temporary password Welcome123.
- Prompt: You may be prompted to enter a new, permanent password.
- Access: Ensure the Application Developer responsibility is visible in the list.
